A boot tray near the front and back doors can catch loose dirt from outside. A shoe rack can also make for a great incentive for people to take their shoes off before entering the rest of the house.

Install some shelves and hooks to give some extra storage space for your keys, umbrellas, and hats.

2. Freshen Up An Old Room

Nothing says new vibes better than a fresh paint job. Depending on the colors you choose, you can turn an old, stuffy office into a vivacious workout room.

Lighter colors like white and beige can reflect light and make space feel more open. Darker colors often lend a more dramatic look.

4. Make An Entertainment Center

A fun home project for the family is to finally put together that entertainment center you’ve been meaning to build. 

The first step is to figure out how many shelves and compartments you’ll need based on what kind of systems you’ll be using. Smart devices take up little space, but a game console can be quite large.

Creating an entertainment center from scratch is a bit more time-consuming than purchasing one, but it’s well worth it. You can make it as big or as small as you want, and customize it in the future.

5. Install Custom Iron Decorations

Add some faux or functioning hinge straps to your doors and cabinets for a historical appeal. Slap an iron door knocker on your front door customized to look like it came straight out of the Renaissance.

6. Build a Fire Pit

For those looking for DIY projects for beginners, a fire pit is a pretty simple one that provides an outdoor activity. Keep warm by the fire, roast some marshmallows, and relax.

At the least, all you need are some wall blocks, a shovel, and some firewood. Dig up a shallow hole in the ground, surround it with the blocks to keep the fire contained, and start your fire.

For a more cohesive look, put down some pea pebbles and paver base around the fire pit for a sitting area.

7. Update House Numbers

For other easy DIY home projects, you could update your house numbers. These tend to go overlooked during home improvements, as they just hang there. 

All you need is a screwdriver to switch out the numbers for something newer that matches the rest of your home. Get creative with it!

8. Update Your Office Space

One fun DIY project is redesigning your office space or creating a small one.

Repaint a table or desk to work on, or consider making your own with whatever shelving you desire. Take this as an opportunity to create your own custom art projects and mount them on the wall.

9. Add Hanging Storage to Garage

If you’re lacking in storage space, why not try going vertical? Hanging storage allows you to free up valuable floor space.

Seasonal items can be hooked onto unused walls or to the ceiling. You can also invest in or create overhead ceiling racks to place tote bins.

Storing items overhead is great for those things you know you won’t need until the weather shifts.

10. Create Your Own Compost Bin

For gardeners out there, you should try creating your own compost bin. Turn your food scraps into fertilizer and lighten the load on your garbage bin.

All you need is scrap wood, screws and nails, chicken wire, and some tools. Toss in some greens, browns, and water, and avoid putting in bones or anything dairy. 

Soon enough you’ll have a concoction that’ll benefit your plants and take away some of the guilt of letting food go bad.
