When tile starts to look grubby, it’s largely down to the grout. Unfortunately, grout is good at absorbing all kinds of stains and it’s an ideal place for mold and mildew to grow. However, you don’t have to be a specialist to get a clean bathroom tile.

There are plenty of things you can do to prevent and clean your bathroom tiles so they’re constantly sparkling. Take a look at some of these tips.

1. Warm Water and Soap

Nothing beats some warm water and soap when it comes to cleaning your tiles properly. You may have heard that a vinegar solution can quickly remove dirt and grime but vinegar is acidic. The acidity can be harmful and damaging to particular tile materials.

Stick to warm and water and soap by spraying directly onto your tiles and then cleaning with a microfibre cloth.

2. Steam

Some dirt and grime will be easy to remove but when it comes to how to clean a bathtub and tiles, you may need a little extra help. It’s common for soap scum residue to form on your bath, shower, and tiles. When this happens, steam can help to loosen and remove it.

You can let the hot water run for five minutes to build up steam in the room or use a handheld steamer to work on your tiles.

3. Scrub Grout

Tile grout can be responsible for making your whole bathroom look dirty. As soon as the grout absorbs grime, it becomes discolored. The quicker you can remove the grime, the better chance you have of restoring the grout. 

Use some hot water and a grout brush to scrub the grout clean. If this is a reoccurring problem, you may want to think about grout sealer spray. This offers stain protection so you don’t have to clean as often.

4. Kill Mold

Mold builds up in humidity so the most important thing you can do is get some ventilation in your bathroom. Whether it’s a ventilation system or just opening the window, letting the moisture out will prevent mold and mildew. If you still find you have mold in your bathroom, it’s important to get a mold remover spray.

5. Protect Your Tiles

If you notice that there are certain areas of your tiles that are more susceptible to stains, you could try and cover them. For instance, the corners of bathtubs often build up stains quicker so why not place removable covers on the corners. Similarly, if your floor tiles stain, you could put down a rug for protection.

Keeping a cleaning bathroom tile is a mixture of cleaning and prevention. The more you act to prevent stains and mold from happening, the less cleaning you’ll need to do. Keep your bathroom aired and seal your grout so you don’t need to scrub until your muscles are weary.
