Residential Window Repair

5 Reasons You Need Residential Window Repair

When you own a home the to-do list of things to repair or replace never seems to shrink. Unless a window is clearly broken, residential window repair is often pretty low on that list.

But should it be higher?

We’re going to cover five reasons you need to raise home window repair to critical status. If you’re not convinced enough to start typing “windows near me” yet, keep reading to find out why your windows shouldn’t wait one more day.

1. Damaged or Old Windows

The most obvious need for residential window repair is a shattered or cracked window.

For years, without even realizing it, you’ve likely been living with damaged windows. Do your windows fog up, but you can’t wipe it away from inside or outside your home?

Do you have a mystery stain beneath your window or is the corner bubbling out? Is the wood framing your window rotting?

These are all good signs that you need new windows or repair. Pets putting their paws on windows also weakens the seal over time, while the windowpane itself seems undamaged.

2. You’re Getting Ready to Sell or Remodeling

If you’re thinking about a remodel to spruce things up or thinking about selling your home, new windows can save the day. New windows will give your home the facelift you’re looking for while increasing the value of your home.

At this critical stage, you need to think about return on investment. Windows bring that in spades.

3. You’re Trying to Find Ways to Lower Your Electric Bill

One reason new windows add value to a home is that new windows almost always reduce energy costs for heating and cooling. R-value is the rating various parts of your home get for radiation of heat.

Windows are notorious for performing poorly, although new window technologies are changing that. Most heat comes into the home through infrared (IR) and UV wavelengths.

The main players are low-E coatings, double and triple panes, and the use of argon or other noble gases. They’re helping prevent sound and heat transmission and reflect them away (or keep it inside).

4. You Live In a Place That’s Very Cold or Very Hot

We’ve already mentioned how it saves electricity and keeps a space cool or warm. But if you live in a cold or hot place, or even one that’s frequently humid, it’s also causing physical wear on the window itself and its seals.

Getting an inspection and maintenance can prevent temperature leaks as well as drafts or water leaks. If you get severe storms (including winter blizzards or storms), keeping on top of your window repair is key.

5. You Think You Need More Security

Greater security is on everyone’s mind these days. Older windows may stick or even may need to get propped up to stay open. These pose hazards for children and pets.

Not only that, but criminals look for corroded or rotting windows as an easy way to enter your home unnoticed.

Newer windows are more robust than ones in the past, with stronger materials that last longer. Some coatings and windowpane options are also harder to break. This helps in deterring criminals but also with severe storms.

Residential Window Repair: Top of the List

For these five reasons, we think residential window repair should be near the top of the list for any homeowner. Especially if you recently moved into a new home, you don’t know the full history of your windows.
