Missouri is a state that is full of surprises. And if you are thinking about moving and living in Missouri, you will find out there is a lot more to this Midwestern state than meets the eye.

But like everywhere, there are pros and cons about Missouri, and before you move to Missouri, you need to consider everything. Here’s a rundown of the main positives and negatives about this unique state.

Pro: Close to Tons of Natural Hotspots

The Midwest has a reputation for being a flat or uninteresting part of the US. This is not true! And those who have the pleasure of living in Missouri know that there are tons of beautiful areas of natural beauty close by.

Within the state of Missouri itself, there is the Mark Twain National Forest. It boasts 1.5 million acres of luscious green trees, lakes, rivers, and hiking trails.

Head south of the border into Arkansas, and you are in the heart of the Ozarks. They don’t call Springfield, Missouri the Queen City of the Ozarks for nothing.

Con: Severe Weather Conditions

If you decide to move to Missouri, you need to prepare for all seasons. The summers are humid, the winters are bitter cold, and there is always the risk of a hurricane or tornado (or both!).

Many residents like the distinct seasons, but it’s not for everyone.

Pro: Low Cost of Living and Housing

The Missouri real estate market is far cheaper than the national average, making it the perfect place to buy a house. Find out more about what is available if you are looking for a new forever home.

But there are plenty of other places in Missouri to consider if this is an issue for you.

Pro: Cities That Offer Plenty to Do

Springfield, St. Louis, and Kansas City are all vibrant and diverse cities with tons to do. You will never get bored living in Missouri!
