Different Types of Fences

The different types of fencing are generally broken up into the material that is used in constructing them. Some materials are better for security while others are better for privacy.

We will cover seven types of fences and their advantages. For more detailed information about fencing options visit Florida Fence.

1. Wood Fences

Wood fences are not only beautiful but can last a lifetime.  Different types of wood, hard or soft, light or dark, have different characteristics. A tall wood plank fence is great for privacy and it’s strength also provides good security as well.

2. Aluminum Fences

Aluminum is a great option for a long-lasting yet easy to maintain the fence. Unlike iron, aluminum doesn’t rust. Aluminum fences come in every style you can imagine for your particular taste.

The fencing can even be made to look like wood or iron.

3. Vinyl PVC Fencing

PVC is a cheap and sensible solution that rivals wood fences. The posts are wood stakes, but a PVC sleeve is put over the stake.

The wood gives the fence the needed strength while the PVC provides the barrier. PVC fences are not very strong and can easily be broken and sections of the fence may need replacing over the years.

4. Iron Fencing

Strength and beauty in one, iron fencing stood the test of time. Tall fancy designed iron fences have protected properties for hundreds of years. The issue with iron is that it can rust so you need to keep repainting the fence every few years to keep the metal protected from corrosion.

5. Chain Link Fencing

The most common type of home fencing is the chainlink fence. By itself, Chain link fences don’t provide any privacy but growing bushes and vines into the fence can do the trick if you don’t want people to be able to see through the fence.

Chainlink is sturdy and reliable. It provides a secure barrier but can maintain a more open feel to the area.

6. Barbed Wire Fences

These types of fencing are security centered. Barbed wire is often used in farming to detour animals from pushing over and out fencing. They are good at repelling unwelcome human guests as well.

7. Electric Fences

Security at its strongest or just a little zap to keep the animals off the fence. Electric fences are mainly for high-security needs and aren’t normally used for homes.

Electric fences are even illegal in some areas, so be sure to check your local laws before charging up your parameter.

Choose Wisely
